Meantime, the feline world was not to be outdone by the canines. In Peru, professional surfer Domingo Pianezzi is teaching the feline “Nicolasa” to ride the waves. Pianezzi said the four-month-old cat had to first overcome her fear of the sea, but they now head out to hit the waves three or four times a week. [Domingo Pianezzi, Pro surfer]; “We have to position ourselves correctly, looking forward, and balanced in the middle of the board and when we start to take off we don’t fall or get pushed off.” Nicolasa belongs to Erika Tamanaja, who waits each morning for Pianezzi to drop by and pick her up for training. [Erika Tamanaja, Cat Owner]: “She started taking baths at home and I thought it was strange because she was never scared and never tried to scratch me like other cats.” Pianezzi said he came up with idea of a surfing cat after competing with his dog. He was at a surf event in Australia when he came across a man who told him how it could be done.
